CH. 16 - Resistance

Haahqae, Tulbas and Gobax (Prefect's Mansion)
Up in the attic, Haahqae slings another bullet at the baaz, but misses. The baaz, however, turns the table and manages to get a cut on the gnome. "I'll gut you, you little rat!" he threatens. Up in his hat, Miracle takes a bit offense by that.

Meanwhile, below, Fiona puts two arrows into the last baaz, injuring him. He avoids Gobax's mace, and likewise the goblin avoids the baaz's sword. But the fire is continuing to grow. Gobax has to squint to see in the bright light and smoke, but luckily he does not feel any pain from the increased heat.

The group hurries to the east, reaching the checkpoint to enter the noble district. "Not losing your resolve, are you?" Magnus asks Kendra as they pass through it, the guards automatically letting them in.

Grubnick bashes at the baaz again

The Baaz's insult calls for a reply; so Haahqae points out the futility of a job he likely did for quite a bit of last year."Months of hundreds of baaz standing on street corners pestering everyone in town, and you still can't stop the people attacking the prefect from arriving with weaponry. How pathetic."

Haahqae will pull out his shortbow and shoot two arrows at baaz 1

"I'll do what needs to be done," Kendra says. "Don't worry about me, and keep running."

Haahqae, Tulbas and Gobax (Prefect's Mansion)
Haahqae fires two arrows at the baaz, but both miss. Luckily, the baaz misses Haahqae, as well. But his spider climb spell will wear off very soon.

Meanwhile, below, Gobax and Pen both attack the last baaz, to no avail. But Fiona manages to land an arrow in his neck, petrifying him. The stinking cloud disperses, but the fire has spread that anyone without protection entering the room is likely to get burned.

By the time they reach the mansion, things are clearly in chaos. Baaz are running around in a panic, some fetching buckets of water while others are searching for some kind of leadership. They look downright relieved when Magnus appears on the scene. "You lot, help in getting that fire out," he tells the baaz who came with him. He then gestures to Kendra. "You come with me," before heading inside the mansion.

Grubnick rushes up and begins bashing the magically held prefect to death with his mace. thouugh the magical silence masks his words, he cries out in vengance for the fallen; for Delharn, for Greddigan, for the innocents of the city, and in the name of Sirrion.

Once done, he emerges slowly from the burning room and says, It is done. Haaque went up into the ceiling. i cant reach him, but i can help him through the fire if he comes out..

[Haahque]

Haahqae will fire two more arrows at the elusive Baaz.

Kendra seems slightly surprised upon seeing the chaos, but she continues to run after Magnus. ~Surely they didn't cause all of this chaos.~ she thinks to herself.

Haahqae, Tulbas and Gobax (Prefect's Mansion)
Gobax smashes his mace across Tethys' skull, but to the goblin's surprise, the prefect does not petrify. Nor does he melt into a puddle of acid. Rather, his skin seems to melt off, and his bones start to shake violently. Before Gobax can react, the bones then explode, shaking the entire house. The silence spell having just ended, the explosion is quite loud.

Meanwhile, up in the attic area, Haahqae had just fired another arrow at the baaz and missed, when suddenly there was a loud and violent explosion below. The entire room shakes. Haahqae's spider climb spell ends, and he's forced to try and grab hold of a support beam without it. But to no avail. Both he and the baaz fall through the ceiling, crashing down below and nearly landing on Gobax in the process.

Moments later, Kendra, Magnus and an old human dressed as a butler arrive from the south. "No!" the butler cries, gesturing across the room. The fire instantly goes out.

"It seems we are too late," Magnus notes. "But my men will be here shortly to take them all into custody."

"NO!" the butler says, his voice reverberating with power. His eyes, now glowing bright red, sweep across the room. "I will deal with these mortals."

Haahqae makes a DEX check to keep from falling (1d20): 19, fail. He falls to the ground, taking (1d6): 1 fall damage.
Butler, Kendra and Magnus arrive. Butler puts out the fire.

Kendra (Prefect's Mansion)
Once inside, Magnus and Kendra find the old butler that Kendra had met before. "Ah, there you two are," he says. "Hurry, upstairs. That's where the fire is."

The three hurry up the stairs, but about half-way up the climb, there is a loud explosion and the entire mansion shakes. Once they regain their footing, the three reach the top of the stairs. The rebels are all about, and the mansion's bedroom is on fire. William, Pen and Fiona are to the left, Miriam and Tulbas to the right. Inside the burning bedroom stands Gobax. Haahqae and a single baaz are on the ground, getting to their feet. There is no sign of the prefect, though.

No!" the butler cries, gesturing across the room. The fire instantly goes out.

"It seems we are too late," Magnus notes. "But my men will be here shortly to take them all into custody."

"NO!" the butler says, his voice reverberating with power. His eyes, now glowing bright red, sweep across the room. "I will deal with these mortals."

Grubnick moves 5 feet east and attacks baaz 1 from behind with his mace

Kendra stands there in pure shock as she didn't expect that the prefect would actually die, but she doesn't have time to think about it as she stares at the butler. For the moment, she remains by Magnus' side.

Being on the lookout and behind the corner of the stairs Tulbas sees Magnus at the bottom of the stairs and is filled with hate. 'This will be my only opportunity.' He thinks to himself. He barely even notice Kendra is actually cooperating with the mage as he is so consumed with hate and sorrow. He knows Magnus must be heavily protected. He also knows now that Williams mumbling about the butler being a dragon might be true. This butler is obviously more than meets the eyes. But with the mayhem he might have a chance. His only chance at revenge. He doesn't care if he dies as far as Magnus will die as well. The red army ruined his homeland and murdered his parents. Magnus murdered his uncle and put him on the path to banishment from his own people and his sister. There is nothing left now for him. He waits a moment to have a clear line to Magnus back and the butler attention on the rebels in front and casts magic missile at Magnus, his words barely heard with the shouts of Magnus and the butler.

(OOC: Tulbas seeks an opportunity. He will wait only a bit hoping to find a moment where Magnus and the butler are separated. He is sure Magnus will stay behind the butler. He also hope that giving orders around and being on the left side of the array, Magnus will face west and so his back will be exposed.
If he will have a chance Tulbas will try to follow with burning hands where Magnus is in the middle assuming Magnus will shoot missiles back and then disappear...)

Butler is a dragon. Dragons are bullshit, let's get out of here. I hope he didn't notice me yet.

Without wasting any time and being as quiet as he can; Haahqae drinks from his potion of invisibility; casts spider climb on himself and climbs back up the hole in the ceiling and down the chimney on the other side; with the goal of escaping to the sewers once more.

A scroll of teleport would be jolly useful about now.

Within seconds, the 'butler' doubles in size. Then triples. Then quadruples. His skin turns red and scaly, as well. Before long, the floor starts to crack and creak.

"Inferno, stop!" warns Magnus. "You'll destroy the mansion if you change in here!"

"What's the matter, Magnus? Did you want to claim the mansion for your own? Interesting timing you had, arriving just seconds too late to help. Or perhaps it was not a coincidence at all?" the butler asks, his voice growing deeper and more reverberating as his size continues to grow. "Incompetence or not, I will see that you, too, pay for this. I will rend the flesh from the bones of you all!"

While this is going on, Gobax takes a swing at the last remaining baaz, who rolls aside to dodge. Haahqae drinks down more of his potion, turning invisible again. And Tulbas decides that now is the opportune time to get his revenge, and casts Magic Missile. The three missiles arc to strike Magnus head on...but splash against some invisible barrier around him, doing no damage at all. Angrily, the wizard turns to Tulbas. "You! If the dragon does not kill you, rest assured I will!"

"Now is not the time!" William points out as the dragon's back is now scraping against the ceiling, tearing it and causing debris to fall down around them. "Everyone, retreat to the front lawn!"

He, Pen, Miriam and Fiona run down the stairs and out the front door. Magnus turns and runs after them.
