Once GG steps down, what are you planning?

Gathering it at the bottom to take with us.
There should be a way to use the gappling hook to allow that.

GG intended to step down, find cover and hide to allow the group to descend safely.
Hiding was to ambush tany ambushers.
If it makes a difference in descent he can steady the bottom of the rope until te next person is down and then go hide.
When two more people are down he can go scout a little., keeping to walls to the west.

After the rope is tide down Adrik will climb down.

-so if we take the Rope off and bring the whole thing with us, how are we getting back up? is the goblin going to free climb 60 ft without a rope? I don't think we'll be able to throw a grappling hook with a rope straight up a narrow shaft all the way to the top (i could be wrong, depends on the DM )

- this a looong rope. we could just cut it at the bottom and leave the top 60 ft or whatever hanging so that we have an escape. We also have an awful lot of rope with the party, and this may be a bit meta but I wouldn't expect another massive drop after this that we would need it bunch of rope for. Even if there were, that's what square knots are for; joining two ends of rope. As Noct said, we're sailora. we can amke the rope be what it needs to.

- as for tying in a natural cave: are there any stalagmites or stalactites to tie it on? if not he could use a hammer or rock or heavy object to set the grapple more firmly. The intent was to tie it off so we can take the grapple with us if needed, or to secure it better for our Escape

After some fooling with a short-ish stalagmite, the Sailors are able to fashion a knot that will use the hook and a loop, and will toss the second end of the rope down the hole.
If you pull the second end, it will loose the knot, and the rope and hook will fall. (I've done this while securing loads of material on my trailers.)

Adrik essentially slides down the rope like a Firefighter sliding down a pole.
Tornak climbs down with relative ease.

If the remaining group members are just climbing down, no need to rolls. There are some obviously warn hand/foot holds, and you can climb down with ease.
